There are two armies lined up against the front line, the Microsoft PC crowd, and the Apple/CISCO warriors. One camp is defending the PC, the other attacks it. In my opinion they are both right and wrong in the same time, and “shooting yourself in the foot” approach does not help anybody.
I think the post PC concept started with the introduction of the IPhone, and the PC as we know it (desktop, laptop) will be around for a while.
Consumers already have a great effect on accelerating the adoption of mobile computing devices like smartphones, tablet/slate computers, and all other gadgets we cannot even imagine at this time. Based on CISCO’s assessment, enterprise data access is already 3 to 1 in favor of mobile devices. This simply means most computer users prefer to connect wireless, have access to a mobile smart phone, and own a tabled/slate device. It is also predicted within 5 years it will not be uncommon for a data consumer to own 5 to 7 mobile access devices.
Now hold your horses! Five years is a long time, and I really hope technology matures so I only have to carry one or two devices something like: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I717ZBAATT . In the meantime we have to embrace “virtualization”.
What is all the fight about? PC stands for personal computing/computer, and all these gadgets are just that.
Here we go. “Era of Virtualization” where the old and new technologies make peace and competition thrives.
If you are a consumer, enjoy your preferred data consumption device. In case you are an enterprise techgeek, my next post will focus on how to stay sane in the new technology landscape.
